The Friction of Distance

Performance installation, 2016

by Lynn Lu

I will perform a durational piece entitled “The Friction of Distance”.
The names of perished refugees will be scripted – in milk – on the pages of Homer’s Odyssey. Over the course of several hours, I will expose the invisible names by holding each page up to a candle flame. Each name will gradually appear upon the brittle page, before (potentially) going up in flames.

This durational live action will be performed throughout the Exhibition Opening evening. A video documentation of it will be projected on the remains of the book for the duration of the exhibition.
